Last week we posed the question, can Filipe come back to Saquarema in a back-to-back win? The answer is yes.
We predicted that Filipe Toledo would emerge victorious at the 2019 Oi Rio Pro, but we feel that Filipe was going to make it happen no matter what. No matter the wind, waves or conditions thrown his way, Filipe adapted, and won.
In the final against Jordy Smith, the local hero put all you could want together in one wave – a barrel, air and tailslide – for a 9 point ride. Jordy was comboed in the first five minutes and never broke it. Bada bing, bada boom. With the win, Filipe jumps three spots up the rankings to third on the leaderboard.
The momentum is timely as he enters the next event, the Corona Open J-Bay, which he has already won back-to-back. I guess we can pose by stating the question, can he make it a tri-fecta? We will not be surprised if Filipe takes this one for the win too. Our Brazilian phenomenon is fired up and ready to go.
